Birgunj, June 13: A probe committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to probe the attack against members of the Dalit community in Rautahat district has solicited recommendations by organizing an interaction programme here Thursday.
“We are doing homework to give final touch to the study taken regarding the incident by holding discussions with all sides,” Coordinator of the Team Rudra Prasad Poudel said.
“The injured have returned to their homes. Reconciliation, awareness and consciousness raising programmes should be launched massively to maintain social harmony in the society and stop such incident from repeating in the future,” he said.
The so-called non-Dalits had attacked the members of Dalit community last Friday night at Pipariya VDC-8 in Rautahat district.
The probe panel began its work from Wednesday.
The incident had taken place after non-Dalits prevented the Dalits to enter into a temple for a wedding ceremony of a local Dalit youth.
Over 65 houses of Dalits were vandalized by the non-Dalts and 19 members of the Dalit community were hurt in the attack.
Meanwhile, different organizations of Dalits have condemned the attack on members of Dalit community.
Organizing a press conference in the capital on Thursday, they have demanded free treatment to the injured, security assurance to Dalits and action against the guilty based on Caste Discrimination and Untouchability Act.Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
